PCR TESTING Rapid PCR Detection of Ticks for Lyme Disease Bacteria, Babesiosis, and Anaplasmosis
When and Why Do We Test Ticks A tick has a two year life cycle and is active year round. Spring, Summer and Fall are the seasons that are most dangerous. Please don't forget in Winter months ticks are alive and active as well. Most of the Lyme disease cases are reported in Summer and Fall. In summer months, ticks are very active as they are in spring and fall but children spend more time outdoors and in summer camps. Also in the summer, families visit the beaches where the dune grass is infested with ticks or go hiking, camping etc. It is important to check for tick bite sites on children and adults, search for ticks in the hair, body and clothes. Ticks are attracted to body heat and often crawl under your clothes and attach to you behind the the leg, arm pit, groin area... so it is important to check daily. If you have been bitten send the ticks for testing, not all ticks have the bacteria. When ticks are tested positive for the bacteria, the adult or child should go to see their medical doctor for proper treatment. It will be helpful to bring the report from the testing of the tick.
Knowing what you have makes the treatment plan more effective. Taking antibiotics has certain risks and side effects so to treat a disease that you do not have could be dangerous. Also over use and misuse of antibiotics is a growing concern. By testing the tick you will be able to have peace of mind knowing that you have made the right choice and be able to get the correct treatment if so needed.
Tick Information: LYMES DISEASE was first recognized by medical doctors when they observed a special group of arthritis patients from the area of Lyme, Connecticut in 1970s. Later, it was found that Lyme disease is caused by bacteria called Borrelia nurgdorferi. The spiral shape bacteria transmits to people through tick bites. The common ticks that carry this are the deer tick, lone star tick, and blacklegged tick.
Lyme disease can cause many problems. Some of the more common symptoms include fever, headaches, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans, (the bulls eye type rash). Erythema migrans is a key early stage symptom. According to CDC, patients treated with antibiotics in the early stages of the infection usually recover rapidly. Thats why it's very important to get the tick tested quickly. That's why it's also important to test the tick and not just yourself. You want to catch the diseases quickly and accurately.
